The Cullinan diamond is the largest gem-quality diamond ever found. The diamond weighs roughly 1.37 pounds (621.35 grams) and is over 3106.75 carats! The 4.1 inches (10.5 centimeters) long diamond was found January 26th 1905, in the Premier No. 2 mine near Pretoria, South Africa. The largest polished gem from the stone is named Cullinan I or Great Star of Africa. The second largest gem from the Cullinan stone is the Cullinan II or Second Star of Africa. The Cullinan I weighed in at 530.4 carats and its brother the Cullinan II at 317.4 carats. They both stand at the second and fourth largest polished diamonds in the world respectively. Both gems are in the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom currently.
