Patek Phillipe - Supercomplication

If you are interested in pocket
watches, then this one will definitely spark your curiosity. The
Supercomplication by Patek Philippe is the most expensive
and complicated watch of its time. The watch is a yellow-gold pocket watch
created in 1932 for New York banker Henry Graves, Jr. The watch was created as
part of a competition Graves had with Ohio automobile engineer James Ward
Packard to have commissioned a watch with the most complications in the world.
The watch took over five years to design, had 900 parts and retained over 24
functions. The Supercomplication wasn’t surpassed until over fifty years later,
when Patek Philippe created the 18k gold Caliber 89, which had a total of 33 different
functions.
Graves’ watch soon became the most expensive watch in the world when it was
sold at auction in 1999 for over $10 million USD. The Caliber 89 went for a
mere $6 million.
Nearly all watches manufactured today have multiple functions. Besides telling the time, what function of your wristwatch is most important to you?
